I saw this the other day, and was going to link it to here, but you did it first Vince, "pipped to/at the post" so to speak.

The DS 8-) must have been so much more comfortable, going down the stairs, than the cars that were chasing after it!

The old'uns are the better cars... ;)

and this goes to show just how supple the G ride is:

another original ad I cannot see now had the GS driving at speed over a
railway line's sleepers on one side of both it's axles with the same cigar gag. 8-)

GSA

Post by stedmancinques »

There used to be on youtube a fabulous advert for the GSA where it is driven at speed towards two large American trucks travelling side by side with a not too big gap between them on a straight desert road. As the GSA passes through the gap the front tyre is blown out by a remotely controlled explosive charge, and the driver remains in full control. (Don't try this at home!)
Anyone else recall seeing it?

Yep. I've got a magazine spread press advert explaining it and I recall
seeing a feature on the telly/video somewhere showing the behind the
scenes with the stunt driver planning and filming it - may have been an
old series called something like "Stunt drivers" probably with cheesy
American voice over. Very memorable advert.

Others of the same series had a GS blow it's tyre approaching a steep
cliff and retaining it's steering, suspenion and handling to veer to safety
at the last gasp and a vauge recollection of a Cx blowing a tyre on a
groyne jetty etc running out to sea.

I've had a tyre on the nearside rear totally disappear off an alloy on a Cx
at 80ish + on the elevated M5 in Brum and I only stopped to check out
if the noise (no vibration) was the rear silenser dropping onto the ground
as it's hangar had given up!! It was that safe the handling and brakes
remained totally unaffected. Sadly the tyre had been a TRX... :(
