C5 windows

Post by birksy »

I have a drivers side that wont do auto (passenger side does) and rear drivers side that drops goes up/down and whatever before closing after several attempts. I've taped over the rear window switches to save me catching them by accident.

Is this a matter of resetting the ecu and following the BSI reboot?

If you hold the button down, keep it held for a few seconds after the window has reached the open position, then lift the switches and keep them held again for a few seconds after the windows has closed. This should restore the one-touch switches.

Why thank you.

That's why I bought it. I think. I got it washed yesterday at the ARC place, I usually wash it at home but CBA with the weather.

I had a sick diesel Mondeo 52. I sold it, bought the C5 and I have not looked back.

Stories put you off about the 'problems' with the C5.

The Mondeo TDDi I had previously had 'moody pump' as a tranny mechanic told me.

The fix was £1200 + parts.........

The ARC carwash is supposed to be among the best, soft touch apparently, its very tempting in this weather!

I washed mine today, seemed to take me an age to do it though, still it wasn't cold or raining.

I looked at Mondeos but they are not a patch on a C5 really, their TDCi engines are a little off putting, just seem to eat injectors according to the relevant site. Plus some of the ones i looked at on 04 plates were rusty on the door bottoms, not worth bothering with.

This C5 is now my third C5 and our 5th in our household! I think they are damn good cars, cant really fault them.

£1200! Thats what my first C5 cost me, and its still an excellent car today, as my sis now runs that one. Its done 128K but its worn the miles very well, looks and drives like its done less than half that.

I've tried to explain to the eldest of the young ones about supply and demand.

The rules are simple, the higher the demand the higher the price. It has nothing to do with quality.

The Mondeo was cheap, £800 + £340 on tyres + oil change as an immediate expense. Only 60K on the clock but not looked after. 24k since last oil change/service.

I took the deal and paid the price. The car had no oil in it. The chain was worn and had ruined the bosch pump at the engine side.

The interior had peeling soft feel rubber switches/surfaces (as does the Mrs A4) the switches were van like blocks.

Still I sold it for more than I bought it for so can't complain.

Sounds as though you got rid of that at the right time.

It did me well but it was time to go but I knew it was cheap when I bought it and sold it at 'market' value.

The 'market' is more emotion than common sense.

I took the Audi in for a recall and was informed that the cam belt that was (i thought) due in May 2011 (5yrs since last change, forget mileage its done nothing) was due in May 2010 as the manufacturers recommendations had been changed.

I had that on my Passat '04. 100,000 between cambelts said the book but it got dropped to 60,000.

Why anyone would buy a VAG car I don't know. Yes its nice in some ways but you are paying for the privilege. The A4 wipers are £40+vat (last time I looked) only from Audi. Halfords don't sell them nor anywhere else. So I sit with pliers and a £7.50 refill.

The A4 has its own problems. water gets in through the bulkhead and soaks the ECUs on the floor between body and carpet. The drivers door only opens/locks with the key and the puddle lights are out. Its a wiring loom thing we think. Advice is to replace the wiring loom for the drivers door.£? I'd need a lobotomy.

I would say tho that the VAG-COM software is a bonus. It seems easier to get hold of than the Lexia and of course does Audi/VW/SEAT/Skoda.

Yes, VAG group cars are not as good as people often make out.

I had a few Seats, their cambelt intervals dropped from 6 years or 60K to 4 years or 40K! As some had snapped early. Not exactly great, many drivers would need a cambelt in 2 years or less.

Hmm, you either dont have aero wipers on your C5 or you have not replaced them yet, as they are around £56 from the dealers!

Yes, the VAG-COM is a good system, thogh similar to Lexias in a lot of ways.

Lexias are available from Ebay, albeit the Chinese versions, though they do the job. Im thinking of getting one.

I've seen the chinese lexia but? The VAG-COM was £!!!! quid but I had the VW and Mrs the A4 so made sense in a way.

A friend bought a blackberry off ebay but it turned out to be a brackberry.

Similar but not the same.

Thats put me off the Rexia a bit. If it works then no probs. I would love to have confrirmation

Most people on here who have a Lexia have the Chinese version, as the originals are very expensive and hard to come by. However a few people have reported problems with the Chinese version, on the whole they seem to do the job well. Ive seen a few in action and they do work well.

We have the 3 C5s (4 at the mo), the Xm and the C1 (not sure if it will be of use there), so it would be a bit of a investment for me.

Defo I'd say if they work. Best to research I suppose as ebay and booze are not a good combo.

Whats a garage charge for diagnostics? £45?

And Citroen would charge...

I tried holding the switch for a few seconds each way.

The window goes down as if in auto mode but not up.

This is very inconvenient. I wouldn't mind if it were the other way around as when you approach the drive-thru you are slowing but leaving said establishment you are picking up speed and sometimes two hands are in order.
