I've been messing about with a multimeter all morning and I'm making scant progress with my ABS problems.
It would be of immense assistance if somebody would pull the multiplug off the ABS relay and tell me if the ABS light remains on the dash. The relay is to be found under the plastic cover behind the battery (it just lifts up), its right on the top in the middle, its green and has a small bracket coming out of it. Mine is marked with both Citroen and ATE (ABS system mfr) markings.
Once its pulled, turn the key and see if your ABS light behaves normally, ie on for 2 secs or so then off; or it remains on constantly.
I will happily buy anyone who does this a pint because its doing my head in!

I assume you are talking about a Xantia. Unplugging the green ABS relay will not turn the ABS fault light out.
As you say, normally after turning the igntion on there is a delay of about 2 secs. then the light goes out. You can also hear the relay clicking. If there is fault, the light stays on and the relay doesn't operate.
Two points. If there is a permanent fault - usually due to an ABS sensor going open circuit - there is no way the warning light will go out.
If there is a temporary fault, i.e. low signal from a bent or dirty sensor for instance, the light may come on. The trick then is to drive the car for a couple of hundred metres, then turn off the ignition for a couple of second, then drive away again. The light will remain on but if it was only a temporary fault, the light should go off after another hundred metres (after it ABS ECU has completed its checks).
Whislt it is possible to check the sensor wiring, locating a low output sensor is obviously more difficult. Take it to a Citroen garage, they will diagnose it for about a tenner - save much time.

For those that haven't read my other thread on this last week, my problem is completely opposite to what most users experience.
I have no ABS - the wheels lock up and the pedal doesn't pulse but the warning light is not showing, it goes on for 2 seconds then off never to be seen again until the ignition is turned off and back on.
Now on mine all the wheel sensor are showing the correct resistance but still no ABS. However if I unplug the relay the light still operates correctly, but removing the ECU multiplug leaves the light on permanently. This leads me to believe either a) the relay is knackered or b) somebody has messed with the wiring. I would have thought removing the relay would put the light on permanently, having somebody try it on a car with working ABS and letting me know the result would let me discount b). If someone has messed with the wiring then I'll take it no further but I'd love to get this sorted off my own back. Letting the dealer look at it would be admitting defeat.

Bob - Does that information apply to the Xantia? It looks like BX information to me.

I've since found another couple of ABS relevant files and to make things easy I've combined them all into one PDF. If any of you have already downloaded the abs1-5 files you just need abs6.jpg and abs7.gif

Don't know if this is any help but when I had a problem with the ABS on a Xantia I went to a local (Loughborough) Cit specialist (not Cit dealer) who plugged in his computer and read off the fault codes and told me what the problem was. I know you would like to solve the problem yourself but if you are reaching hair tearing out stage it might be better for your sanity to consult a local independent! It only took him a couple of minutes!! You could give him a fiver for his couple of mins and go away and mend it yourself (if possible!)

Further investigation today has satisfied me that it is very likely the relay is at fault.
Anybody any idea how much these are, or better still got one going spare?
