Xsara with immobiliser & central locking fault

Post by cornishboy »

All of a sudden my xsara will not start. When i put the key in the ignition the dash lights up as normal but the key symbol stays on, I get a warning on the display saying 'engine immobiliser fault' and a binging noise. Also the central locking does not work. I changed the battery in the key hoping this was the issue but sadly not. Any ideas welcomed.

Any clues as to likely cost of having system reset (have lost data code card!) by Citroen and or new immobiliser would also be apreciated if anyone knows.

Central locking could caused by a broken wire between the door and car at the drivers door....

Pull the rubber grommet back on the harness, unscrew it from the door if necessary, and check the wires...

This was also a common fault on Pug 306's, and some high milage xantias.

This could also be causing the immobiliser fault.. but Im not certain of that.

Assuming this is one of the later multiplexed cars, I'd check the main battery voltage - they can start doing all sorts of odd things if the voltage is low. Also if you've had the battery off and not been careful the computer can forget the keys....
