non starting scenic

hi everyone, my father has a 2000 x reg scenic 1.6 elize, been running great untill this morning, starts for about 2 seconds and then stalls, it wont pick up just keeps starting then cutting out, anyone have any ideas what the fault could be? cheers, steve.

2 possibilities i can think of.

tdc/flywheel sensor on your gearbox - replacement part £58

or it could be your immobiliser, check the red light on centre dash stays on constant during starting.
