406 Radio

Unread post by Peter.N. »

The radio on my newly acquired 406 Hdi is rubbish, it will only pick up strong local stations, does it have an aerial amplifier does anyone know?

Thanks, Peter

Hi!

These radios have a 'local' and a 'distance' setting!!!

To change the setting, pull forward the small audio control lever on the RHS of the steering column twice with the equipment in "Radio" mode on the FM band, and you will find that "LO" for local or "DX" for distance reception is displayed on the centre-display after the station frequency!!! Select "DX" mode then try doing a station search again!!!

I've had these types of radios in a variety of cars and failure of the aerial or its amplifier isn't very common!!!

Hope this helps!!!

Thanks Chris, that's what I was hoping for - they don't tell you anything in the book.

That's improved it no end Chris, still not as good as the one in the XM though :(

Thanks again

Perhaps it just needs a new ECC85 in the tuner Peter, that's the usual cure for when one of my Wirelesses around here goes a bit deaf on VHF

Seriously, I believe some Xantias had a preamp in the aerial base. Maybe the later ones, so it's worth a check to see if yours has.

I never thought the Mk2 Xantia Clarion radio was a hot on sensitivity as the MK1 Blaupunkt but a run to Somerset at the weekend where I know any radio struggles with R4 on certain stretches of the A303 showed the Clarion was well on a par with the Blaupunkt.

XM Prestige PRV6 92
Talbot Express Autotrail Chinook 89
Mitsubishi L200 Trojan 14
Xantia Activa 95, sold (missed)

Service Citroen is awesome, it shows me pictures of all the parts i used to be able to buy............

Hi Dean

Yes, I think that probably has something to do with it, plus the one on the XM is about 1/4 wave so resonates around the FM frequencies.

Jim

I've got an ECC85 somewhere, do you have to take the dashboard out to fit it? Could just be that the pins are dirty :D I will see how it is on the road, if not good I will look for a preamp.
