Xantia TD high mileages

Post by bigblackfalco »

My apologies if this has been covered before, i'm interested to know what mileage the TD engined Xantias are capable of reaching if they are looked after correctly?
What's the highest on record by forum users?
cheers.

It has been covered recently, sort of !
I began by asking about Xantia HDI's but it developed into any vehicle on the forum !

Plenty of Xantia TDI's are mentioned.

About 10 years ago the media reported a 405 TD taxi in Wales which had clocked up a million miles.
Service them regularly, don't let them over heat or run while they need work doing to them, and they'll go on and on and on.

As above, I'd agree. With regular and correct maintenance (including regular coolant changes, why do people not do this???) and sympathetic driving almost forever.

A lot of people don't think it needs to be changed "it's just water and antifreeze innit?".

:D , a lot of these people were very " :( " , when I told them they wanted a headgasket due to overheating / blocked coolant passages, due to the 'toffee' (for want of a better word, although that does describe it quite accurately) present instead of coolant after say six to ten years of just an occasional 'top up' instead of actually changing it.
Andy.

Which is strange because coolant change is a service item ! Every 2 years or 4 with long life coolant.

Trouble here is the cars had fell out of the dealerships service department in most cases by the time they were more than three years old.

The services meant to attract older vehicles back have (or had anyway) these as optional extras (along with brake fluid / timing belt etc) as appropriate. The idea being to upsell if needed, although some people thought you were out to rip them off, certainly with me that was NOT the case, I just explained what and why...

The XUD is legend, capable of intergalactic mileage when looked after. As they are simple engines and easy to work on, just about everything is possible by the DIY enthusiast on his driveway, unlike the freakishly complicated modern diesel. I could well imagine that you could keep one going indefinitely, and certainly in most cases the rest of the car falls apart long before the engine.
