V5 owner information

Post by 200sx »

Hi

What would you expect to see in the previous owner details of an ex motability vehicle? Motability or a private individual?

Think mine is private individual. Although I was told it was registered as disabled. Nothing seemed to have been done to the car in terms of modifications and its a manual. Not sure what was disabled about it.

I think just the taxation class says 'disabled' on the V5 (aka free road tax), although I have not seen one for a long time so not 100% sure.

Bear in mind that the V5 records the 'registered user', who is not necessarily the owner.

Correction: It's registered keeper

I was listening to a programme on the radio the other evening about stolen cars being sold with fake paperwork and it transpires that there is currently NO official document to prove ownership of a vehicle. The V5 only indicates who is liable to pay the road tax.

I had to take my Synergie V5 to the local DVLA office to get it changed when I bought it as it was registered to a charity and they didn't have to pay road tax. Can't remember what is was marked up as though.

Our Scenic was a mobility vehicle. It was registered to a private person with the taxation class as disabled (for the free tax disc etc).
When I purchased it I had to go to our local DVLA office to have the taxation class changed back to PC (private car).

Presumably the paid invoice/receipt would be proof of ownership in the absence of any contradictory documentation.

I'm sure I have one here somewhere

Assuming the person that sold it to you had the legal right to do so.
