C5 Dashboard tell tale out

Unread post by Philjw »

Hi All,
The tell tale for the side lights has gone on the instrument panel of my 2005 facelift C5. The BoL says that these are leds and cannot be repaired. Is that true? Has anyone had any success in fixing these? Or are there any specialist repairers out there who could do the job? I hate to think how much Citroen would ask for a new panel.
The car has done 100K miles now and this will be the first fault that looks like it won't be getting fixed.
:(

If the problem is only a failed LED then I would have thought that repair would not be a big deal, getting the panel out is a very quick job, dismantling it only a little longer and "playing" and checking the bare PCB in situ do-able with a little care.

If it is a surface mount LED it could be a challenge for someone unused to delicate soldering jobs but otherwise as cachaciero says, not beyond the bounds of possibility and a decent electronics workshop should be able to do any fine work that you think is beyond your abilities - try a good Audiophile outlet with their own service and repair department. Shouldn't be too hard to find one.
I'd recommend Lintone Audio in Gateshead if you are anywhere near. Their engineer Andy as a genius.

Thanks for the advice guys. I'm in Essex so Gateshead's a bit far. I'll pull the panel out and see just how delicate it looks. I'm OK with basic soldering but I don't have any fine kit and I'd be better off giving this to someone more able and experienced.
