Xantia: replacing front bumper and nearside front headlamp

Post by ellsy66 »

Had a prang in the snow today :( not happy after buying this nice example of a xantia last week!
Just bought a headlamp and looking for a bumper and foglight but are they hard to fit anyone know??

Oh and also the headlamp i bought was off an estate model same year (V), i am assuming this will fit?

The foglight is almost impossible to fix with the bumper in situ but once
the whole bumper is off the car access is a doddle. Assuming you're
renewing the whole bumper, all you need to watch out for is getting a
replacement with the moulded cut outs for the fog lights.

Mind, competition for replacement front end bits may be high with lots
of folk doing the same thing as you...

The main headlights are fastened with straightforward x3 bolts and are the
same on all mk2 Xantiae. Have you checked out eBay? Whereabouts are you
located asnd what colour is the car in case someone on the forum or spotted
on eBay with a bumper are nearby?

Cheers that helps a lot!

I will be taking the whole bumper off so no problem getting the fog in by the sounds of it.
Do you know how the bumper is fixed on (what bolts and where?)
the colour is a lightish metallic blue, thanks for looking out for me, really appreciate it.
I'm in located in Christchurch, Bournemouth area.

Thanks,

Light metallic blue isn't a regular colour so you're more likely to need one
repainted! The only mk2 ones with foglight cutouts on eBay are these:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/xantia-w-reg-dark ... 0673847684

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/XANTIA-FRONT-BUMP ... 0511109065

Not exactly just 'round the corner and collection only too!

Checking the online Citroen parts database shows up a difference with and
without headlight washers as well as solid or cut out foglight openings on
the main front bumper so something to be careful about.

Good luck!

Actual bumpers are all the same for Series 2, it's the clip-over cover that varies with or without washer nozzles.

Hi ellsy66

There are 3 or 5 10mm bolts that fix the undershield of the bumper. You will need to remove headlights and indicators along with plastic cover above rad fans (2 small torx screws) and prise the plastic trim out (plastic clips).
Each wheel arch splash guard will need to be removed/pulled to one side and there should be a 13mm bolt running through a bracket into the bumper. On each inner wing approx 2-3 " in there is a small torx screw that holds the wing in.
Then its just a case of giving it a good tug from the front and off it comes
If i have this right item 72 is the bolt/screw that holds the bumper and item 71 is the little torx screw

Dont worry about items 2-3-4-8-11 they will stay attatched to the bumper
Hope this helps :)

The visible chrome strips will be different between the two but Citroen do list a difference:

This does show the main BIIIGGG bolts fastening either end on the lower wings
although there are more bolts visible around the grille and lower apron IIRC.

That's interesting Andrew. I wonder if the basic underpinnings of all Australian models was high Exclusive spec - I know wiring is in place for heated washer nozzles and all the rest?

Dave, 2, 3 & 4 usually come as pre-assembled onto the bumper body, although they can be taken off a damaged one. Watch out for the moulded clips as they do snap.
