Ah, the common weakness of a design..

The likely thing is the Rod that the outer handle pushes down - attache's to the lock lever by a sort of crockadile tooth type clip, has likely slid down as the spring side has got weak with age...

Its a VERY damm awkward place to get at and set up correctly... Its an all in one rivited job so not easilly replaced on its own..

Someone will have the diagram, Ive not got access to any exploded diagrams

It's not the fault of the actual door handle on the outside of the door or for
that matter the inside either, but as Paul says, the central locking cassette
that is triggered by the rods that operate the mechanism. You can try taking
it out of the door and repairing it but at that stage you're better off just
bolting a better alternative one in from eBaying one. Guy I've dealt with
called 'Hand shandy" is highly recommended and lists one for £20.

You say drivers but don't say if it's front or back door or whether it's a
saloon or estate if a rear door - all are different and handed.

They're a pita to do especially setting the teeth of the grip Paul describes
as the crocodile and correct adjustment is critical.
