Berligo Van makes a noise like a spring twanging

Hello all
I have a Berlingo van 1.9, five years old.
When I pull away I occasionaly get a noise wich sounds like a spring going twang from the rear of the van.
I have removed the spare wheel carrier just in case it was hiting the exhaust, but that has not cured the problem.
Speed bumps and the like do not have any effect.

Lastly the cluch pedal is quite heavy, is this normal.

all in all a smashing little work van for a new business.

I am not familiar with this vehicle, but the magazine ''Car Machanics'' (am I aloud to mention a publication) (Seems there has been a recall on this problem) did an article on this vehicle in it's November issue & mentioned a fault similar to the one to which you refer eg springs popping out of there caps. The remedy seems to be to place a band around the spring to prevent it happening.

I vaguely remember a recall on one model to fit either a rubber piece or a plastic sleeve on the spring top, although this is going back a few years now...
