1.6HDI Injection ECU

Post by mooseshaver »

Does the ECU have a integral cooler?
I have the fault edc16c34_dv6
temporary fault
cooling function integrated into the ECU (fan unit) open circuit or temperature too high.

I can see the fault has been erased many times. Every time its been to a dealer. Is it a real fault or a pretend one?

Without having seen one, my first thought is its heatsink (either on a chip or part of the casing itself) is loose.

Its too cold today to have a look. I assume the thing must be with other ECUs next to the battery?

What it is saying is that the engine cooling functionality i.e fan control is integrated within the ECU i.e fan cooling is not in a separate ECU.

In simple words the fan speed is controlled from the injection ECU.

Going on from that it would seem to me that it is seeing on oveheat condition but isn't quite sure why??

A pretend fault then? The fan only has one speed, and that works fine on the actuator tests. The low speed does not. I've had the dealers look at this and they told me it only has one speed.

It seems to me that ECU believes diffferently I feel sure that the ECU will be able to drive a two speed solution if programmed, so the question is is the ECU correctly programmed for a single speed fan, because if it is programmed for two speed then I guess it's not surprising that it complains :-)

I don't suppose the ECU itself has a little cooling fan inside it for cooling itself (i.e. like a computer) has it?

And it's this that's flagging up the fault...

Just a thought...
