Hi there.
I'm trying to find out a little about the Xantia range from 1996-1998 - specifically the last of the MK1's. I've been looking around and some of them have bodycoloured bumpers, some have black ones, some have leather, some have velour, there are a wealth of special editions, and it's all rather confusing.
Does anyone know where I can find detailed information about what happened to the range, and specifically which models have the bodycoloured bumpers? Thinking of buying a last of the Mk1's 1.9TD with aircon and front and rear electric windows, and want one with the bodycoloured bumpers ahd the rear spoiler. Leather would be nice, as well.

The last of the mark one Xantias had a hole load of different 'special editions' in order to run-out the old models in favour of the new. The ones with body coloured bumpers were if I recall the more basic models such as LX + SX, I believe the VSX continued with black. There were also 'named' editions of entirely normal spec models with the LX called Temptation, and the VSX being called Athena for example. This was to make way for later spec models with the dealer removing factory fitted VSX badges and replacing with 'Athena'. I believe that spoilers were fitted to SX models only. Just to confuse you more, these editions were again repeated and then named Athena 2 etc, just before the MK2 models. As far as leather being fitted as standard, this was only to the very last VSX models whilst running alongside the 'new' MK1 3 litre V6 Exclusive. I would imagine there are very few examples of these about. Upholstery changed almost by the month, the VSX went from the chequered pattern to a more subtle 'floral' velour around 1996 and the SX spotted velour then went onto the LX etc. There were also LX models with 'Alcantara' suede uphostery but without the velour inserts of the previous optional extra. Aircon became standard in 1996. If all this has not confused you then good luck! The best bet is to try and get hold of an old brochure, possibly from ebay, but these would only tell you the LX, SX and VSX models, I believe the special editions were only sold by way of salesmen referring to printed A4 sheets from Citroen. If fall else fails then please email me with a phone no, because I still have copies of most brochures produced by Citroen in this period as I bought a new Xantia VSX in 1997.

I'll just add to that. When they made aircon standard they made the sunroof an option.
Yes the models are very confusing, as with all Citroens. Especially since the UK dealers have a habit of bringing out special edition models with less equipment than standard (at a lower price though).
The current VTR (or is it VTS?) range of C5s is a joke. Spoilers and sports seats combined with the smallest engines? What are they thinking. It's not a Corsa!
