Hi!
My '406's Factory-fitted CD changer has just developed an interesting study in skipping and jumping, with the music beginning to sound like a pmneumatic hammer-drill and long periods of silence, altho' the elapsed time indicator on the centre display still continues to work!!!
Both commercially pressed and home-burnt CDs suffer from this, with commercial ones having a mysterious tendency to always skip around track 17, irrespective of how many tracks there are on the disc!!!
These changers are VAN-multiplexed and operated off the B.S.I. and the audio system, so obviously I'll need the correct replacement, but I ***do *** have the knowledge to dismantle the unit, service it and fit a new laser assembly (if available!!!), but before I go to all that trouble, has anyone else had this aggro with these changers and can those cleaning-discs with the tiddly lens brush be used in them?
Anybody know if there's any forums related to the repair of Car CD-changers I can look in?
Many thanks,
Chris Williams

Chris, I can't help much but to say the CD changer has its own menu on the DIAG to read any faults. I wonder if there are any there?
