XUD Water Pumps.

Post by Chlorate »

Mine's been leaking for quite some time.
It's got worse recently, apparently putting a lot of antifreeze in there dissolved out some of the sludge that's been sealing it.

Shopping around on fleabay etc; are the pumps on turbo and non turbo engines the same?
My guess would be yes, but figured it'd be best I checked.

Thanks

I believe so yes. I looked at a random example (306 XUD7 DIESEL XUD9 TUR DIESEL XUD9TE ) they all share the same pump 1201A8

Beware: The pumps ARE different between years, typically 1992 / 1993 onwards are different to pre those years.

It also lists slightly different pumps for different vehicles (example being the 1.9 406 pump is different) but I would guess the difference here is due to the later models having part of the pump as the cambelt cover.

Obviously the XU11 is different as are the petrol XU's

I don't have Citroën data

Hmm, mine's a 1994.
I did see those pumps with the extra flange on the edge, the picture in the BoL doesn't have it.
Shall have to investigate further then.

Thanks Spider.

Just wish the pump wasn't in such an awkward place so I could go and look at the damn thing.

Easy to check.

Is your cover bolted on or clipped on ?

Bolted on = later one, pump WITH 'protector' / guide

Clipped on = earlier one, pump WITHOUT 'protector' / guide

;)

That makes sense, it's bolted on.
Made an offer on a cheap motaquip pump with the guard.

Thanks again spider.

You're welcome.

You 'must' have one with the protector / guard fitted then. The one without will actually fit but there will be an exposed hole in the cambelt cover, inviting stones and pebbles in. :)
