Electric windows

Can anyone tell me if the windows on an 2002, 406 are multiplexed or conventionally wired and what would cause them to operate intemittently? Do they suffer with faulty switches like the Citroens?

They will be multiplexed. There's a chance of a control unit in the door.

I would assume its not the switch, they have to 'learn' where the top / bottom are, although I cannot recall the procedure for this.

They are commonly found to be faulty. I believe the switches themselves are conventionally wired, the control module in the door then interprets the input and sends a signal BSI understands.

As for causes; possibly water getting into the switches or - more likely, like mine - they just wear with age in the same way the wiper stalks do I think.

I would offer a spare but Coupé ones are different from the saloon and estates.

Thanks for that, this is just one of the problems on a car I am going to look at tommorrow, the others sound fairly straight forward.

Windows are multiplexed ... when it starts to rain my cars rain sensor notices this and the the windows shut!
