306 Hdi Revs dropping when braking

Post by scfc_151 »

I have a 2001 306 2.0hdi. It runs well usually even with 200,000 miles on the clock

Recently when braking I noticed the revs would drop to the point where it would feel like it is going to stall. When I take my foot off the brake the revs return to normal.

Is this due to a vacuum pump or servo problem?

The engine warning light came on recently too although I dont know if this is a seperate issue. The car seemed to overrun when the engine was turned off. The diagnostic light came on but after a couple of days it went off again.

I was wondering whether it would be worth getting a diagnostic done and if this would show up the braking problem?
I had a diagnostic done last year when I replaced the throttle position sensor so I know the ECU was cleared of faults upto that point.

Sorry that was long winded and thanks in advance.

I think the best thing with such a problem is to get the fault codes read, have you looked to see if there is a forum member living nearby with suitable equipment (Lexia/Peugeot planet)

These are Lexia's though, it might not read it (some may cope with Planet too)

In the mean time, carefully examine any vacuum hoses (including the ones going to the valves on the bulkhead, if fitted) for cracks / perishing etc.
