Anyone got a duff 205GTi gearbox please?

Post by JohnT »

1989 Pug 205 1.9 GTi. The speedometer drive pinion is ok, but the large plastic gear in the housing which the offside drive shaft passes through seems to be damaged.
My head hurts! I have had a new cable on before I realised the problem.
Anyone know where I could find a new plastic drive cog?
Thanks.
Cheers!

I have one off a 1.9TD 306 BE3 box. Do different cars use different ones? If it's suitable, you're welcome to it.

Thanks for reply, the bit I need is just the small housing which the speedo drive attaches to, or even better the actual cog which drives the speedo pinion in that housing. I would happily pay for postage and a couple of pints!
Cheers!

I think they are the same for BE3's , apart from later ones that have a electronic sensor and no cable, although you can remove that anyway.

I know what you mean, the housing assembly it lives in.

The difference will be the differential not the speedo housing anyway, at least as far as I know. One from any BE3 will do (try to get something off a similar year though if possible)

Caution : If you have reverse at top left (early box) you will probably find the later ones do not fit, unlikely but you are on the changeover year, that's the BE1 box I think

Thanks for info Andy. Anyone locate one for me please, either the housing or just the drive cog if you have a duff B3 box? Thanks.
Cheers!

Hi John, I'll try and post up a photo of the one I have this afternoon and you can let me know if it's suitable.

Is it just the plastic bit on the right you need?

It is yes! Thank you for taking the time and effort. Much appreciated. Please tell me how I can arrange to own that item. I think I had better have the whole item just in case?
Cheers!

Hi, back again, I think that the plastic cog to the right in the photo is what I need. In hindsight I do not need the housing as the only item in the housing that could malfunction is the plastic part. How can I arrange to own the item please? Your help is much appreciated. It is very good of you to take the photo and help out. Thanks, John.
Cheers!

Make sure it's the same colour. They come in either black or beige. If you fit the wrong one the teeth won't match up. Most dealers do stock these, they've used the same set-up for years. When you refit make sure the lugs are engaged in the diff side properly.
