Oil in turbo??

Post by andyg »

Hello all,
I am replacing my tired ZXTD engine with a so-called decent second hand engine.
When the engine arrived on a pallet, it was on it's side with oil dripping out of the turbo. The engine is complete and when i stood it up, was full of oil to the correct level.
My question is this;
Can i expect any problems or should i be looking for anything regarding the oil dripping from the turbo or would that be normal of an engine lying on it's side for a while?

Hmm, this one is rather close to heart, I have exactly the same issue ( replacement turbo ).
My first blew in a big way, oil and smoke from the exhaust.
The replacement had some oil in the air-side, and for the first 300 miles it smoked like a chimney ( dripping oil from the exhaust ), but the engine oil level remained OK, so it was acually pushing out the oil in the turbo, and the residue from the blown one in the exhaust pipe.
I would do an oil and filter change, and also pour oil directly into the top of the turbo ( where the metal oil feed pipe connects on the top ), so that it's at least had fresh stuff when you start it.
Check your oil consumption on a daily basis.
