Hi All,
My grandaughter has a little Cleo 1.2 Ltr, 2003 vintage, and it's due an mot soon. She was in today to tell me that her ABS Sensor light come on when she is doing between 60 & 70 on the motorways, she spoke to her local mot station owner who said that it was an mot failure but I don't think that's right! When do the testers ever drive the car on test at 60 + MPH? I feel that now he knows of it he will tell her it needs some expensive work carried out on it.
Any ideas anyone, what type of lexia plug do'es it need, can it be tested like a Citroen XM to find what sensor is at fault? Any help would be appreciated.
Bob.

Hi Bob,
An ABS light is an MOT failure I believe, but if it's only at 60+ mph they are unlikely to notice it. I would however get it fixed, if your grandaughter is doing 70mph on a wet motorway you probably want her to have ABS. As a start clean the rotor teeth on each disc with a wire brush and blow the sensors out with some compressed air. Good chance this will sort it as they are prone to picking up mud.
The Renault tool is called "CLIP", but it's expensive and dealers usually take the p**s to plug one in. I've got a product called RSTuner, which among other things can read fault codes. I think it does the 1.2, if your passing this way we can plug it in and see if turns anything up (I'm over in Clydebank).

Hi Evilally
She got it through the MOT as you and I know they just cannot test run up to 60MPH to test it. But I don't like it having that problem for the reasons you outlined!
I run a Citroen XM and have a simple way of checking exactly what sensor is giving the problem. Is there a simple way of checking which sensor is failing by reading the coil resistance on a Cleo?
The tester is a fairly 'fair' operator BUT he did make a ballsup on mine and the overcharge was £95.00 for the wrong silencer, so I had another £90 odd 6 months later. He has offered to read the fault codes for £30.00.
She wants to sell as she and her partner have a car each and only need one but want it free of faults of course.
I'll talk to them and get back to you if thats okay.
Best regards.
