Peugeot 106 Rust

Hi guys,

I've just bought a very tidy little 1999 Peugeot 106 Zest 2. It's really very clean, the bodywork is good and the interior is excellent. It has 74000 miles on it. The one problem is rust in the boot. I bought the car knowing that it has this rust issue. My old Saxo, which of course is basically the same car, never had this problem despite being 2 years older. Is this easy enough to fix or have I bought a duffer? I'm pretty sure I could stick a screwdriver through very easily so it will need fixed before it's next MOT in February.

if that is on the inside of the back panle (double skined section) it will not be an MOT faliur,

it is not within 30cm of anything structural (suspension, seat/belt, steering mounts ),

it could do with welding up or it will just eat away even more

That's not an uncommon area to have a bit of rust on a 106. Although as Malcolm has said does want tidying up to check its not going to spread.

Update: Rust problem sorted. I also got it waxoyled underneath from bumper to bumper, hopefully it will be solid for a good few years to come. The car passed it's MOT as well with no issues.

I seem to remember my ancient AX had rust in a similar place. Though just below on the boot floor. The place i took it too for an MOT cut it out and welded in a new bit. Didn't look too pretty but it kept the car on the road.

Thats obviously a dirt trap behind the wheel arch, muck will be sat soaking up water rotting away the wheel arch.

Cheers Chris. It does seem to be a weak spot on them. New metal is the only answer. Several layers of Waxoyl should prevent a reoccurance.
