'97 ZX 1.9D Estate Replacement Exhaust?

Post by zx man »

My 1997 zx 1.9D (non-turbo)Leader estate exhaust is blowing along the pipe close to where it enters the back box. At the front there appears to be what I'm pretty sure is a cat, altho' none of the replacement manufacturers catalogues I've seen so far show this car to have been fitted with a cat.
Does anyone know whether I can replace the pipe from the cat (there is no clamp) back to the rear box at less than the £350 the dealer is quoting for a complete new exhaust system?
Any ideas? Thanks.

It depends in which month of '97 your ZX was built. In the early part of the year they didn't have a cat fitted. Later, they did have one, and later still they had cat/EGR. Unless anyone knows different, I would say that you could 'lose' your cat. A rear box shouldn't be more that 40-50 quid.

What encyclopaedic knowledge - thanks!
So you reckon I can fix it by fitting a non-cat version as shown in the replacement part catalogues........

If you don't have EGR, I would think you could use the earlier two pipe system.
