How many more miles will it do?

Post by R9UKE »

Seen this?

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/1995-CITROEN-XM-E ... 41534c5718

315,000 miles! If I were anywhere near them I'd try my luck at the starting bid and see if she could get to 400,000.

Probably the highest mileage Citroen I've come across...

I'm not familiar with that engine (2.5TD) , I'd assumed they shared the 605's XUD11 , obviously not :D

The XUD9 (maybe the XUD11 too) are capable of very very high mileages if looked after (regular coolant and religious oil changes) , 400k to 500k is not difficult.

91 205D-Turbo, gone but still missed
02 106D, TUD5B, gone but not really missed apart from the MPG

My brother just bought a Peugeot 406 HDi with 313k and he was looking at a Citroen C5 2.2 HDi with 470k!

Its almost run in  , that will have a few more miles to give yet.

Another high mileage HDi reported, very good, i do like to hear about those :) The highest mileage car we have is the C5 SX HDi, with 125K miles, very low mileage when hearing about those.

With the C5, what surprised me most was the fact it was a 2.2HDi and not the 2.0, knowing the 2.2 can be a bit more troublesome.

Very low seeing as my C5 V6 had 142k when I sold it.

Thats a car id like at some point, they do go cheaply too.

Two very low mileage C5 V6s on autotrader, 39K - £2K & 24K - £3250.

Its all down to how well they have been driven and maintained, I regularly see cars with low mileage come in part ex that are knackered (normally 206/Corsas etc driven by ladies) Last week we took in a Merc E240 (petrol) which is 6 years old and done 185000 miles, fmbsh and runs perfectly!

Anyway back to the XM, any takers?

I completely agree. We had an '05 Laguna in work the other day. Top of the range Initiale model, but every bit of trim that could have been broken was. It was grubby, tatty and just generally abused. Only 51,000 on her though. Then we had a 1997 Volvo 940 with 189k... looked and drove like new.

Mr Citroenesque's BX GTi auto (petrol) is a good example, nearly on quarter of a million miles and going strong, two caring owners, maintained properly from day one.

Had a BX 16 petrol with similar mileage on it, again maintained by a mechanic owner, looked horrible (until I got my mits round it) but drove spot on!

I'm wondering how long my V6 will run for. It's currently on 173K and seemingly as healthy as a butcher's dog.

I've not heard of any other ES9 engines that have topped that sort of mileage and would love to know of any very high mileage ones and what's likely to die at high mileages. I guess that as the gearboxes usually die well before the engine, high-mileage ES9s are a bit of a rarity.

I certainly want to try to get it past 200K and the rest of the car should be good for it.

I endorse the regular servicing as a method to attain high mileages. My V6 was a company car and had a full MDSH until not so long ago. The car overall, although a bit dog-eared in places, is still generally excellent; a testimony to good routine maintenance.
