Violent lumping when car is started (Xantia 90Hdi)

I've noticed more and more that when starting, when cold, there is a heavy lump when it starts. I don't notice it when the engine is warm.

Any ideas what this might be?

Car is from year 2000 and has done 55000miles, good service history.

Could it be one of the fuel filters, oil filter or thick/old oil?
I found a vast improvement when mine started doing this by getting a service done.
