A friend of a friend lost the ignition key to a Xantia 1.8 petrol. I think he has got one from a dealer but it will not allow the engine to start.
I think the starter turns over but perhaps the ignition needs a signal from the transponder in the key?
How can you get around this?
Any help greatly received!
Graeme

Hi Graeme,
If it's a MK2 then the key needs the transponder chip and this needs programming. For this you'll need the PIN number that came with the car and a Lexia.
Does the immobiliser light in the tacho go off when you switch on the ignition and try a start?
If you don't have the PIN (it comes on a credit card) then you'll have to get it from a dealer after giving the car's VIN and proof of ownership.
It can get expensive.
No real way to bypass the immobiliser on a MK2.
This does not apply to a MK1.

If you can get the PIN code then feel free to give me a shout.
I'd probably need someone from here who has used the Lexia before to give me a heads up on how to do it though!
David.

I know its called "LEarning" or "Key Learning". The on screen instrctions are reletivily clear..
I managed to add a PLIP for Locking the car with the Lexia, but didn't get as far as getting it to start the car...
