Xantia HDi Temperature Warning Flashing

Post by DHallworth »

Hi Guys,

Having a spot of bother with our Xantia HDi.

The Stop warning and temperature warning lights will occasionally flash.

The temperature pin sits perfectly normal but this light just occasionally comes on and flashes, then goes off.

I've flushed the cooling system with a 2 part flush and put a new 50/50 mixture of Anti Freeze and water into it.

My mum's V6 did this the other day too when my dad n I were giving it the beans, again the temperature pin was normal and this only flickered once or twice.

The HDi however seems to do it when you're not giving it stick. Just wondering if there's a sensor on them both that's gone duff!

Anyone experienced this before?

Thanks

David.

Hello David, I have an identical problem with the 405, and have come to assume it's a bad connection.

A wire is either chafed and shorting out at times, or is too short and occasionally loses continuity. I'd guess one of the two temperature senders, but possibly the dash one is more likely of those.

Cheers, Adam.

Had this problem in our Xsara HDi and it was the green engine temperature sensor. Cost about £11 from dealers at the time.

D,

Do a lexia session and check the operation of the COOLING fans!

Seriously, I had this on a W reg HDi, and it was the "Slow Running Cooling Fans" shoer cuircuit, it was the slow running relay inside the small trianglar box, between the cooling fans...

Take the cowling off, remove the cover and pull out one of each of the 2 relays, 2 green, one black and check the relays pins and connectors behind...

The cooling fans AND temp guage are both controlled by ONE sensor on HDi's in the side of the thermostat house, end of the cylinder head....
