No, I'm not being obsessive!
I've eventually got round to replacing the seal over the O/S doors that apparently ripped when it froze to the rear door (before I had the car).
I've found with other cars that the cure for doors sticking to the weather seals on frosty nights is to thoroughly wax polish that part of the doors and the tailgate/hatch where the metal meets the seal. The idea is that this treatment makes the paintwork water-repellant - ice may still form, but it won't adhere to the polished paint.
I've seen WD40 or similar suggested as a quick and easy alternative; it probably will do for a while until the solvents rot the seals.

Sounds a good suggestion, especially in combination with spotlessly clean/waxed & polished door shuts.handyman wrote:Hi Guy, have you tried KY jelly? No, not in your private life. On your door seals.
Just a thin smear works wonders, but you can pile it on if you really want to get "dirty".
Or petroleum jelly/Vaseline.

I'd avoid Vaseline/petroleum jelly as it will degrade the rubber seals.
Silicon lubricant is another consideration - expensive though.
Over here in Norway it is common practise to coat all door rubber seals with silicone spray before winter begins. I should think that Halfords would have the small sprays produced by turtle wax that are common here along with many other suppliers. The stuff works wonders and leaves the KY jelly free to be used elsewhere... fitting cv joint rubber gaiters for example

As a matter of course I always polish the door, boot and bonnet shuts to provide a measure of protection for the paint work and it tends to keep them cleaner because it's harder for the grime to stick. A wipe over the rubber and plastic parts with Armour All or such protects them too.
Don't get me wrong I'm not obsessive about polishing cars, twice a year's enough for me.
Steve.

I use Vaseline not realising it's bad for rubber, now means lot of hard work getting it off and replacing with silicone.
