Nice BX - a rarity too.

Post by citroenesque »

As title listing spotted on AUTO-TRADER, Olympic Blue, 84k, £495 (But note short MOT) - a nice tidy looking Auto Estate.

Rare too. It has the Jetronic injection (basically a GTi estate) and the later GTi interior. In a beautiful colour and good provenance. And look how tidy the engine bay is...

I'd say that is a great opportunity for someone. Being an auto too makes it very desirable - assuming you're not obsessed with mpg.

Modified Cam(s) is the first give away...as the 16v was the only one to have two cams.

Second is the body kit... always were very well stuck on swapping them is not made easy...

My guess then is a genuine one...

Yes, that blue auto trader is nice but L- Jetronic injection would put me off. My 205GTi had that and I think the mental scars of trying to get the damm thing to idle any sense have just about healed now... I did get her to idle reasonably well for a few days at a time; it needed constant attention.

I developed a loathing for L-Jet that has yet to clear. A great system at any speed other than at idle and in an auto, a bad idle will cause untold havoc...

Good point. But IME they go like stink compared to the Motronic that followed.

I used to have a Saab 900 auto with K-Jetronic I think. Which was just fine. Didn't the L have more electronics where the K was more or less mechanical?

Indeed they do Phil :D Hence my comment about being great at any speed except idle :P And you can tweak them too..

Demag, yes, K-Jet was the Bosch mechanical and not a bad system. L-Jet (L for Luft as in German for air) was an electronic analogue fuel computer that used the "flapper" Airflow Meter to measure the volume of air being drawn into the engine. The flapper had a big cermet potentiometer in it that wore and the big clockwork spring would weaken over time, upsetting the mixture. Idle was not under ECU control and could wander all over the place. Most L jets wer happiest idling at about 1100 rpm

I briefly had a BMW 528i SE on a 1988 E plate, the E28 Shark nose...

I beleve it was L Jet Tronic on that too....

I bought it as a non runner project, but did not know enough about fule injection... The bugger would not start or idle... however, when I did get her going briefly it FLEW down the road, it was a manual..

It never ran again! I even put an Air Flow meter off another 2.8 engine and it still wasn't having it.

I stripped a load of parts of it and was forced to scrap her :-(

I still love the E28 BMW series.....
