C5 esp/pollution fault

Post by mixc »

Hi
problems with my c5 2.2 hdi.
up to sixty it behaves as it should. i.e it revs to 4000 rpm
as son as l hit 60 the esp comes on, in to limp mode.
I changed the swirl valve actuator.

Any ideas?
the garage says the turbos pack in, cant see this as you can feel the turo kick in. :? :?

I had this and the dealers wanted to replace the turbo as they say they always replace them on those engines.
Eventually I found a specialist who used a pressure tester and found one of the electro valves were duff and he replaced it. It was fine after that. Can't remember the cost but it was far cheaper than the £1250 the dealer wanted for a turbo. Think it was a couple of hundred including new screen wash pump and his time taking the turbo to pieces to clean it based on the Dealer's diagnosis.

I think the fault is listed as boost pressure too high on the Lexia.

Well there are really two possibilities with that error.
1. Turbo control electrovalve failure

2. Lack of vacuum.

For most failures of the Electro valve I would have expected the Lexia to have flaged it, doesn't mean there isn't an electrovalve failure but it would not be the first thing I would look at.

Lack of vacuum this would be the first thing to check, a new swirl valve rules out leakage in the valve but there are still several rubber bits which can give problems.

So before you do anything else check the vacuum pressure on the inlet side of the Turbo electro valve at idle you should see 200mB anything higher than this is suspicious, 400mBar and you definitely have a problem and likely not enough vacuum to control the turbo.

EDIT

Sorry I got confused with mooshavers post and was under the impression that you had had the codes read. I would suggest checking the vacuum is not a bad idea but you really need to get the codes read that way you / us will have a better idea of what the problem is.
