Stuff a modified Saxo! The stock 2.0 Xantia is FAST!!
My daughter needed a lift into work today, so I took the Xantia, and never before have I realised how fast it can be if you push it!! I was on a nice country road, went to go down from 5th to 4th, and accidentally hit 2nd, but before I had a chance to rectify the gear change, I realised how fast it was in high RPM's! Even at just half throttle in 2nd it shot from 45MPH to 65MPH in about 1.5 seconds! However it was a dusty road and I suspect I'll need to give it a clean after all that blasting! Not to mention spray some brake cleaner on the disks to get rid of any dirt to stop them scoring. But who cares! I can see why Xantias sold by the thousand, great cars
Pitty there are hardly any 2.0 Petrols though... As their the fastest engines in Xantias!

I don't think I'll be alone in thinking this, but you don't half post some crap on this forum!! One minute your knee wont let you drive a manual, the next you're accelerating 45-65 faster than most sports cars in a manual Xantia. (and your Xantia is ALWAYS broken!)
Sorry for the mini rant, it's been a long day
Sorry for the mini rant, it's been a long day
I took the Xantia as I hadn't driven it for ages (except round the block to check the PAS) so I deserved ONE long drive! It isn't always broken. Most of the problems are just wear and tare that any car will get over time! Looks like I just bought the Xantia at the time in it's life when all the components were starting to fail! Haha.
And the point of the post was just to tell people you don't need a small modified car to be fast and sporty, as a stock bigger Xantia will be just as good!

Would that be the 2.0 8v, the early 2.0 16v, the later 2.0 16v, or the 2.0 CT Turbo?Xantia2.0 wrote: Pitty there are hardly any 2.0 Petrols though... As their the fastest engines in Xantias!
I had an 8 valve and a CT Turbo (estate, not an Activa), both gave roughly the same mpg, guess which one gave me the biggest smile.
But I'd take a BX 16v over either of them.
The reason there aren't many petrols around in general is they didn't keep their value like the diesels and most will have been scrapped because they were not worth the cost of fixing a minor fault.

Well I have the 3 litre V6 24v xantia, and on a run she WILL give 35mpg...
then 140mph, of course 35 mpg and 140mph at the same time is of course a NO NO....
The 2 litre 16v is the only engine ive NOT driven in Xantia or XM...
Im led to beleve the 2.0 16v is a good performer and reletivly good on fuel most certainly in the XM.. I may have to try one one day...
As for small car for fun, Rubbish!! I agree, the Xantia can make a fantastic stormer and handler, and be a family car in one..

I can reassure you Paul the 2.0 16v in the Xantia is indeed both good on fuel and a bit of a motorway muncher
On our recent 1458 mile round trip to Scotland i averaged a tad over 38 mpg and must confess that keeping it under a ton is quite hard work
And that was achieved with 2 adults,a teenager and a not so skinny border collie plus luggage. We actually did the 500 mile trip up in just over 7 1/2 hours including a 1/2 hour pit stop
They do have a fair bit of get up and go around town etc but out on the open road a little throttle goes a long way
Should our paths cross then you are more than welcome to her a spin

The 2.0 16v in a 406 is shocking for fuel economy though.
My experience was with an estate and it was almost as bad as my Activa. Worse than every V6 I've owned.

Yeah, there are quite a few faster Xantias than a 2.0 16v, im sure a 2.1TD would be getting close and feel much more grunty too.
Id have thought you would have tried the performance of your car before now! Its what its there for.
However, ive driven a manual Xm 2.0 16v and an auto. The manaul was great, really performed well, especially after 4000rpm and its economy was great. 40MPG on a run (80mph) was very achievable. Smooth, refined and economical engine.

Funny you should mention that Chris as i currently run bothCitroenmad wrote:Yeah, there are quite a few faster Xantias than a 2.0 16v, im sure a 2.1TD would be getting close and feel much more grunty too.
It may just be the old grey matter playing tricks but the 2.1TD does seem to be on a par with the 2.0 16v in regards to round town get up and go but i would guess it would lose out acceleration wise once you get close to a ton.Never having taken the 2.1TD very far i cant compare them yet but that will change in October when the 2.1TD is going to take the same load upto the Cotswolds. It should out perform the 2.0 16v on fuel economy though
