Got a Citroen ZX 1.4i I have been trying to find the cuase of knocking noise when letting the clutch pedal up and sometimes when in slow moving traffic. On jacking the car up and turning the front wheels by hand with the car in gear I can hear the noise, there seems to be some play in the driveshaft or gearbox as you can turn the wheel by about quarter of turn before it stops i.e. taken up drive is this normal or is it something serious[:(].
Had a look at the mounts the one next to the cambelt seems alright. the one underneath car i.e. behind the sump seems a bit soft to touch. oh and when I have the bonnet open and rock the car back and forward the engine seems to move in tandem with the knock.
