106 1.5d oil leak and clutch issue

Post by KP »

All,

Colleague at work has a 1.5d and his clutch makes a wierd clicking noise when engaged now and also has an oil leak from the flywheel end of the engine. It looks and smells like engine oil and im wondering if the engine block seal at that end has gone and is causing the noise and leak?

Is this normal or is it likely to be gearbox oil?

Also guessing a new clutch kit will be needed but for the seals to be done does it require the crank to come out?

I said i'd reckon the work would be about £400 plus bits from a decent garage.

Anyone any experience with these?

The leak will probably be rear crank seal (if its engine oil) or input shaft seal (if its gearbox oil)

The rear crank seal, I cannot recall ever changing one on a TU.D unit, should not be too difficult though: Clutch off, flywheel off and replace seal

Well i actually think its now gearbox oil and the place have quoted the fella a fortune to get it through its MOT as it also needs a lower ball joint.

I think he is wanting to scrap it and not bother with it so may buy it cheap and weigh it in myself at a local place or fleabay it...
