Cam Belt Failiure

Unread post by Martyn718 »

Afternoon all,

Had a bit of a niggle this morning with the cambelt failing on my 01 Megane, high chance of bent valves, damaged piston heads etc etc. Been told its a common problem with these cars and was wondering if anyone might know what would be the cheapest way to sort it, i.e New engine or get it fixed? Unfortunately money is fairly tight so any help would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

Martyn, I would pull the head and see what's occurred and then see the cheapest course of action?

may take you a few hours but..

if its the k4m or k4j 1.6 or 1.4 16v then it should cost around £200 for the parts it is almost always possable to repair, as for the labour you will have to haggle!

Unfortunately I will not be getting the engine repaired as with labour and VAT it is likely to cost £1300+

Fortunately though I have managed to find a replacement engine the same as the current. £250 + £50 Delivered and £450 to fit and a couple of parts plus VAT, so will be saving around £500. Still pricey but not much that can be done really
