Dean's Activa/XM/V6 and now Talbot blog

...never thought i would be typing that with all my body parts still attached but so far she's been ok ish with it

Driven it 3 minutes home and although it has no go at all, its smooth as silk and handles like a go cart, all be it a big go-cart.
Anyway this will be a bit quiet for a good while ive got two weeks off to do the kitchen and i wouldnt want to anger her anymore by playing with cars, then when thats done ive got to finnish building my rack and get it into the xm so thats on the road again and useable and then and only then can i play with the new toy :( , rear ram bush is gone but it doesnt seem to be leaking which is good and the roll control does work very well, the main thing is lack of boost so for starters its boost pipes off and give the turbo a flick, if its seized then the engine will come out to get it sorted and a new clutch fitted while im at it but thats a good few weeks off yet so for the time being i will just have to look at it.

Wow, an Activa Dean, very nice 8-)

It looks very unique with its bodykit and it does look in good condition going by the pictures.

I think if that had been 3 minutes away from my home i would have had that too!

Good luck with it :)

Great stuff Dean!

By the sound of things, given a couple of months of getting stuck in you'll
know more about Activae than anyone!! Isn't that hydraulic clutch nice!?

If you do nothing else I'd say how about treating the car to a set of new
number plates to de-bling it a bit. 8-)

And do those rear "drainpipes" actually connect to anything?
(especially the offside one!) :?

Are you going to turbo the XM now?
um no i think is the short answer to that Robert, i like the xm very much, ok its slow but its so nice to drive and i do get near 40mpg on long motorway runs so it has its upsides and now i have a manual turbo i dont see thee point in that project mainly because i have something else more constructive to focus on now.
Thanks for the comments, im really happy with her, the inside (apart from a broken stalk shroud and scuffed glovebox is A1/mint the outside could do with a paint job on the boot lid and there is a small hole in the o/s headlamp and thats it, underneathh is perfect and in the last year its had all 10 westroen? spheres fitted along with new pressure reg, activa control linkages and blocks replaced AND a new pump so it has wanted for nothing, oh also it has a cat back stainless exhaust as you can see and it sounds nice, its not often i hear an aftermarket exhaust that is right but this is throaty but muted with a nice overrun burble, i want to throw this car at some corners very badly indeed

the clutch is nice yes, one of the best ive used but it bites high :? a bit too high for my liking but being hydraulic i guess thats down to friction lining thickness hence why i would do the clutch if the engine came out.

You'll need to revisit your signature Dean! I always wondered if you'd
get the red Xm pulled apart to turbo it - better to stay with the car you love
driving and are proud to own!? The Activa can sate your alter ego!

Has the Missus actually seen the car yet Dean? She may believe you've gone
all sensible buying an 'ordinary' hatchback which may even run a TD motor...

Has the Missus actually seen the car yet Dean? She may believe you've gone
all sensible buying an 'ordinary' hatchback which may even run a TD motor... Shocked
as i came home she appeared on the drive with that look of disgust that only a woman can do and said "17 again are we?" and she went back indoors............she isnt happy but then she knows its an activa not a plain jane and that means my attention is diverted to cars again and its thirsty, and she doesnt like that at all, but there has been nothing thrown yet and im still here so its ok!

Oh dear. So if you take leave from the forum for a while a rescue mission will
need to be mounted by sea?

I've found that the modest mileage I cover a day (30 miles tops) is perfect
for running the thirstier end of the interesting Citroen scale with Cx, Xm and
Xantiae petrols and by the sounds of things you're in the same position
- enjoy (if you're allowed out to 'play').
