1999 Scenic Immobiliser Catastrophy

Unread post by bazeybee1 »

Hi
Car is a 1999 V Reg scenic RT 1600 Petrol.
Problem is usual as in car was stopped then when tried to start, nothing. Occasionally tries to start, will fire then cuts out. Have checked for spark but nothing there, have changed TDC sensor for new but no different.
Immobileser light does not go out when unlocking with key fob and when you turn ignition on, the speed of the flash increases. Have spent most of the afternoon reading numerous articles which seem to relate to IR Fobs, mine is a RF Fob. Tried using the C/L buttton on the dash to slow it down but no effect thinking could maybe get the Immob code(not sure where as no code inside key fob) and enter manually.
So now sat here scratching my head on a Sunday evening wondering what next, so any help would be gratefully received

Sounds just like when my mates Ford Galaxy 7 seater thing refused to start after work. Fine in the morning, then dead later.
We're old school,so tried usual stuff, even easy start lol. We were thinking, hmm, moby, fuel cut off etc etc, anyway, it had us beat.
Got AA out and it was his key, needed a new one.Like I say,we're old school,we'd never have thought of it being the flippin key immobilizing his own car!

Could be totally wrong, but your symptoms sound very similar. I'm sure some techie will be along soon with better info.

if your red light is flashing fast you have a imobilisor fault chances are it is the key, try gently tapping the back of the key on somthing hard this somtimes works but not always now the bad news there is no way of entering a code manualy you can on the mk1 model but not on a mk2 which you have, dont buy a second hand key it cannot be reprogrammed a renault dealer will charge about £150 for a new key and to programme it in , hope this helps..
