Saxo VTR power steering

Post by deek »

Hi,
My girlfriend came home tonight & said that her steering was heavy, also brakes heavy. Saw some smoke near N/S front wheel
Right enough, no power steering, and seems like no servo.
Checked all the fuses, all fine. Heater fan still working.
So
I am assuming it is the pump, does the pump do anything for the brake servo too ?
Cheers
Derek

Smoke from wheel ??
This could be leaking servo oil that burns on the brakes, explaining both symptoms.
You should have a servo oil reservoir - check if it's bottom up empty - indicating an exploded servo line spraying against that wheel's brake.

Thought I'd let you know what the problem was.
The feed into the pump itself had shorted together, melting about 10 -15cm of wire out from the pump.
After a bit of surgery to the connectors on the brush unit, attached new cable, and joined back in before the connector plug to the loom.
No braking problem after all !
Scary !
