Saxo heater blower fault

Post by MikeT »

As I'm full view of passing pedestrians going to the nearby shop I'm getting comments everytime I pop the bonnet and today was no exception. Anyway, a neighbour asked my advice about his Saxo blower that has a fault as follows.
Setting
1 - does nothing
2 - works then stops
3 - ditto etc.

Does anyone know if it's a common fault and what is the solution?

I would not say it was a common issue, in my experience anyway.

Usually (assuming the wiring to the fan is OK, probably will be on a Saxo as normally only 406 / Xantia suffers with the 'plug' problem) , its going to be the switch or the resistor pack.

My initial thought is the switch as I have seen this happen once before on a 106 (same car as you know) and the switch went all 'floppy' (for want of a better word)

Was a long time ago so not too sure of how difficult will be to remove, I doubt it will be too bad, once you get the heater panel forwards a little bit.

Cannot remember where resistor pack is, logic would suggest under scuttle area so its in the airflow.

Sometimes, you can confirm its the switch by wiggling slightly (sideways) or pressing it in gently (or pulling it out slightly) if there's an improvement its the switch at fault.
Andy.

Thanks Andy, from it working at number 2 then going off, it could well be the switch at fault. If the other option is the resistor pack, you say it's perhaps behind the scuttle - is it part of the blower or a seperate unit?

I think its separate, but I might be thinking of a 306 / ZX one, a quick look will confirm though.

The saxo/106 resistor pack is part of the blower motor.
