xsara engine management light update!

Post by desertfox »

Well after all your advice i took it to my local garage,he had the correct diagnostics machine and told me it said something in the line of "misfire bank 1" that was in the somewhere definately.

He didnt charge me for it and said see how it goes till i take it back next week for timing belt change.

Any ideas of what it means,he was a bit baffled too.

Thanks Gary

If he was using a Lexia, which is the only machine to use to correctly interpret faults in Citroens, "misfire in bank 1" means that your ignition coil pack has a fault, possible affecting cylinders one and three. This may be just the HT insulation breaking down or it may be a fault in the primary or seconday windings, or it may be a faulty sparkplug. If he does not know what any of this is, change your garage!

If he is using another diagnostic system, I would take any readings or fault diagnosis with a big pinch of salt. :yikes:

I think I would take a look at the plugs, maybe to see if one or a pair look like they have been running badly.. then maybe find a spare coil unit and throw that on to see if it improves things..
