Xantia Estate 1.9TD 1997 Radiator Bottom Hose

Post by swiss_steve »

Hi folks,

Is anyone breaking a car like my Temptation II with A/C (just pre facelift)? I need another bottom hose as my radiator has sprung on me after 13 years (yes, the original has finally gone, not bad lifetime eh?), and I had to cut the hose to get the old Rad out as it is truly corroded together.

All offers welcome!

Cheers,

Steve

That's not that uncommon (it being stuck)

If you are going down the 'used' hose route (I do not think they are that expensive new actually?) , you will want a new seal for it, assuming its like a 406 / 306 one , otherwise the 'new' one will leak if you attempt to re-use the seal.

Hi Spider,

Well I haven't checked GSF/Partco etc yet; I only just finished getting the old one out late this evening. Do you think I can get one from these types of Motor Factors, or must I buy from Citroen?

I'll also remember the new seal tip!

Cheers,

Steve

i belive this is the hose you require as my R reg XANT 1.9TD estate is a very late MK1

Part Number Description Quantity Price excl. VAT Price incl. VAT Total incl. VAT Selection
00001343Z0 WTR OUTLET HOSE 46.32 GBP 54.43 GBP 54.43 GBP

gone up a bit since i bought one though,

they are a realy BBBBB to fit and get to seal so new is the only way to go ,IMO

it might even pay to think about a new top hose as well,

because when i fitted my new rad, i pulled to old top hose out to find the metal end which holds the seal in place was rotted away,

Hi Malcolm, good to hear from you again.

This Hose part number (00001343Z0) - is it the official Citroen Part No and Citroen price? Did you note that my Xant has A/C as well (if that makes a difference...)?

Yes, I know it's going to be a game getting it back in. I ended up having to remove the wheel and arch liner, windscreen washer bottle, plus a couple of splash covers to get the complete bottom hose out - not funny.... What's wrong with good old hose clamps eh? I guess that adds 30 seconds to the car build at the factory....

The top hose is in fairly good shape, including the metal end sleeve that locates in the radiator, fortunately. It came out of the radiator relatively easily after some gentle prying with a wide blade screwdriver!

Cheers again,

Steve

The hoses are cheaper on mainland Europe - one German supplier has €41 on them (genuine) - I wonder if postage would take up the saving?

Personally! JUNK the stupid ridicilous Bionet (or what ever the hell they call them) connections!

But a "Normal" rad with proper Hose clip connections, Ive got loads of top and bottom hoses with "Normal" connections!

Get a Rad from autokool, about 75 quid and are ALLOY ones, even though the orface for the cooling fan switch is there, stick a duff one in! The rads are the same!

A damm stupid idea those, and they must have thought the same, as the HDI range went back to pipe and hose clip....

I have done this too

I accidentally got a M1 rad for my M2, which had good old fasioned outlets on.. then I either modified the hoses to fit (cut the sprung bit off) or got some M1 hoses, cant remember

Thanks again Malcolm,

Got the extra seal, exactly as you advised.

Any idea what kind of anti-freeze I should use? Citroen Main Dealer says blue (except C1 models, whatever that means). GSF say red; original Citroen is yellow....

I just don't want to wreck the new Rad system, having invested al this cash in the car's cooling system!

Cheers,

Steve

The C1 is a Toyota Iago so will have a different spec.
Don't take this as a definitive answer but I would be tempted by either Citroen Procur 3000 AntiGel, which is in mine, or Motul Inugel Optimal

Either way I would drain and flush the system thoroughly and not mix either with anything else.

True but the newer types offer better protection, improved anti corrosion and less coagulation, which would mean better protection for the dreaded heater matrix at the very least.
