TD= Turbo Diesel
I'll be putting in my TD soon, currently using semi-synth but says it's ok for diesels. Synth is good for turbo's, especially if you rag it like I do.[/quote]
yes synthetic especially good for turbo's especially in the rundown when engine turned off,
sorry its not near you, maybe it will take a while for offer to trickle thru

I'm not sold on the idea of oil cooking in a turbo diesel as the temperatures only rise when going full throttle and quickly cool off-throttle. By the time the car is parked, it's simply not hot enough IMO. The handbook does advise not to rev the engine when turning off but that's all.
I've used mineral oil in this TD and the one before with no problems whatsoever though I do cut short the intervals to about 5K miles. However, I'll always prefer synthetic as it's less likely to shear at high turbo speeds and as I'm tuning this engine (probably to breaking point), it's going to need all the protection it can get.
Yeah, the price-cut might be on the way but the Tesco offer meant they've been out of stock since it started. Maybe I'll be lucky and catch some on the shelfs if/when our Asda reduce the price.
ah yes, remember many years ago when i converted my audi man came to visit in his citroen bx running on supermarket oil, he had made an electric preheater in the fuel line with a thermal cutout for when the heater pipes got hot.jgra1 wrote:straight or Waste veg oil ie. supermarket cooking oil or in my case, brighton kebab oil or something similar
is supermarket cooking oil cheap enough? and what ratio can you run it in a car without a prepump fuel heater
