I want to change the fuel filter as the car is running rough at idle and I know its not been changed, but on looking at the filter I cannot see how you take the old one off without damaging the fuel pipe !!
You press the white 'button' in (the bit you have written 'lift this') , just press it in carefully as you gently pull it off. Do not attempt to pull the connector off the pipe! , or you`ll have to get a replacement pipe.
Expect some fuel loss (leave engine off for a couple of minutes before going near it ideally) but you`ll still lose some fuel)
To refit, just push the connectors back on, you`ll hear them 'click' , check they are on properly by attempting to pull them off.
Watch the fittings on the new filter, typically they have a step / ridge on the stubs. If your new filter does not have this and the old one does, stop and go get one that does have the ridge on the stubs.

EFI filters are definitely directional, as suggested above. The fuel line that goes toward the front is fairly readily identified with a bit of eyeballing.
206 ones used to do that, there was a recall to change them actually (back in about 99), replaced metal ones with plastic (assume as their location made them especially prone to road salt)

Thanks for the picture that does help I have just changed mine (bugger to get off) but the new one had ridges at the ends which I had to hack off. Even though the pipes did press home correctly it leaks.
Now wondering if it was the right one, box said it was so having to get one from the stealer just to be sure.
pipe left hand side of my picture is where its leaking.
