Rear Suspension Plastic Link

On my Xantia, the plastic link between the rear anti-roll bar & the height control unit keeps coming detached from the HCU, even when a new link is used. There must be wear on the steel nipple of the ball & socket connection.
Does anyone know how to cure the problem without replacing the hight control unit?

Can you wrap a spring or cable tie round the assembly to hold it together?

I've got the plastic link road, a new (bolt on) ball cup and the clip right here, got it as a sample. You can have it if it helps!
