Xantia bulkhead heater hose connections

Post by martin xantia 2 »

I have a broken heater pipe connection where it goes through the bulhead from the engine bay. It seems that there is a less expensive replacement than the Citroen one which is a crazy price. Anyone know where I can get this part or any info at all would be helpfull. I have cut the pipes off and rejoined them so cooling is ok but no heater.

Is it the plastic section that has broken, the rubber to plastic part or the rubber part just before the plastic section??

You can get others off scrapped xantias or some xsara's and maybe some cit/pug vans and then chop the pipes up to match.

This is what i did from a 1.9d(not HDI) xsara and it still holding well.

Heater hose connections

Many thanks, it is the plastic connection part or "O" ring section, may have to replace this part complete. I have 2 xantias, the HDi is in New Zealand so I am trying to trace the part before going out again. Martin

If i were you i would find a xsara diesel, not going to be easy in the chanel isles, and take the whole pipe seciont from its heater matrix elbox.

A Berlingo van one fits too. I'm using one of those on my V6.

It was originally attached to a very dead DW8 engine...

Xantia heater connections

Thanks for all your input guys. Living on an Island of 2200 people spares from scrap cars is going to be hard but we are only 11 ks from the French coast and I do have a Xantia there so I will have to practice my French to find the parts. I have 2 Xantias, a turbo diesel in France and a SXV in New Zealand and still recon they were one of the best cars Citroen produced. Thanks again and any other ideals will be welcome, what a great forum. Martin

Jim, did we use berlingo ones on Juliet?
I mention it as with the new o-rings fitted, the pipes don't stay in, eventually blowing themselves off under higher revs and dumping the coolant.
Without the o-rings they fit perfectly and with no leaks.

Xac,

To get them on with new o rings there is a 'knack' to it as i have had what you describe a few times with my xant and worked out the best thing was some vaseline on them and having the rings half way, sometimes all the way along the connectors so that as you push in they can move back along the connectors :)

Mine stayed on for a while before i got my head issue and that was even with super pressure in the system :D

Any one will do - even though the HDi has an Aux Heater inline between the heater and cylinder head, just cut the pipe short..

If you have problems I DO have a hand full of them - I could possibly send one to Channel Island I THINK!! Id have to get a quote though - unless you do get one sourced closer to you..

Believe me I have tried that knack, and I can see how it works, but the o-rings I have are too thick to accomodate the pipes in the socket and allow it to lock into place with the metal clip.
That there are no leaks without the o-rings gives an idea as to how tight the fit is.
The o-rings which came off were more like large plastic washers, completely flat, not sure if that's due to being compressed in all directions but they didn't look like rubber o-rings to me.

Juliet's quirky so I don't expect many other people to be in the same boat :)
I do keep a regular eye on the coolant level and the joint though.

Xac

It works VERY well, I do all mine like that now, and they clip in nicely everytime....

Gentle presusasion with a longish screw driver when removing them also goes a long way to helping them to come out, this Ive also sucessfully done about 5 times now :D :D

I blame the new o-rings for putting on weight since leaving the factory :)
