Anybody know when the ICE unit in the Xantia changed from radio/tape to radio/cd?
I want to play CDs in my car - radio reception round Stoke is useless, and want to keep the original look if I can.
I've tried a Goodmans unit in the aperture (didn't fit, too thick) and it wouldn't have looked right anyway, too many flashing lights and bar graphs.
Does the MK2 unit fit a Mk1 dash?

hi Dave, the phase two cars have a radio/tape, but with CD changer controls.. so, late 97 I think..
Stupidly I threw one of these headuits out last week
I think you will be able to get one to work on some level in a phase 1 car, possibly the wheel buttons will be the main issue though..
others will know more

Dave,
The Xantia Series 2 Radio units with CD Changer controller DO work and Plug straight in on S1 cars, but as JGra1 has said, you loose steering wheel controls only..
Series 1 Blaupunkt radios DO also control CD Changers, a 10 disk unit, but it needs to be the PH1/D unit, with the Flush fitting tape control buttons..
These Blaupunkt CD Changer units seem much rarer, and dont seem as reliable.. for me, Id sooner do without steering controls and install a S2 Clarion and CD unit in an S1 car..

Make sure you get a unit WITH code, as the Clarions cannot be decoded from the Serial Number! and of course, if you buy it from Ebay, you've not got the reg to goto the dealer, I can however, remove and read the chip..davewithington wrote:Not bothered about the steering wheel controls, I only use the volume control occasionally.
I'll look out for the later unit then

A mk1 VSX should have a head that will control a Blaupunkt changer (if the top left hand button is labelled "mode".
It is compatible with a CDC A05, or CDC A077 or a CDC A03. The firts 2 need a citroen adapter cable, the last one requires a custom adapter cable, but I have the wiring details tucked away somewhere.
I have been using a CDC A03 for about 9 months now, and it seems to be a bit more robust than the others (they were OE equipment for Rover/MG, so there are a few around).

Make sure that it's the older style A03 though as the silver one isn't compatible as I found to my expense.xantia_v6 wrote:I have been using a CDC A03 for about 9 months now, and it seems to be a bit more robust than the others (they were OE equipment for Rover/MG, so there are a few around).

In place of the standard My 95/96 Sx was fitted (by the supplying dealer?) when new with Clarion Radio/Tape/CD unit with a remote 6CD Autochanger in the O/S/R cubbyhole. The wheel buttons worked for the first year or two that I had the car but don't anymore, - another not so little job to be done! I'm guessing that this unit was probably the usual offering if customers wanted a CD player.
As the dash has the flap that hides the radio front (don't know when this excellent feature was discontinued) the audio unit is only visible when it's in use.
The Radio fitting instructions seem to be generic but the auto-changer instructions suggest that it's specific to:
Radio unit - ARX8170R
CD autochanger - CDC 605
I'll check the unit when I go to the car late today.

I have just read your question and it has prompted me after years of looking at the french car forum to register!
You can use a CD changer with the head unit you have as your car is a VSX, if it has the Blaupunkt stero. I have a SX 1995 and I was lucky enough to be able to get a unit from a scrap VSX car with the code, I got the local car audio company to order and fit a new Blaupunkt 10 CD changer which I have under the passenger seat, it works fine and has done for a number of years, with the steering wheel controls as well! The Mode button does change from Radio, Tape to CD and the display tells you what CD no your on and which track
Have a go with the head unit you have?
Regards
Mark
