Citroen Xantia fixes needed please

Unread post by markr »

Markr needs help again !!!!

I have removed the radio todayfrom my Xantia gotall the serial numbers and used the radio code calculator which has given me my code (I hope)

I have done as advised left the radio on for two hours and it id come up with code.

I have put the number in, but with out any handbooks I did not know what to press next to get the code in. So I pressed number 6 as pushing nothing else worked and it locked me out again and came up with the
-- -- -- -- agin so I am waiting another two hours.

Please help. Once i have put int he digits for thecode what di press to get it in the radio. It is the Blaupunkt style radio 1996 xantia.

Secondly I think it has air con as there is a AC unit in the front passengar footwell and a snowflake button on the dash. Cannot I still do the in line relay fix on the ignition with this unit or do I need to take it to a citroen specialist.

Finally the engine is revving in 3rd and 4th gears when I accelerate to overtake, is the clutch going ???

Regards Markr

Hi Markr

Assuming you have a blauplunkt radio the input process is as follows using the code 7825 as an example

press channel button 1 this should give you display of 0000

keep pressing button 1 until 7 is displayed
then button 2 until 8 is displayed
then button 3 until 2 is displayed
then button 4 until 5 is displayed

once the correct code is displayed press button 6 this will enter the code

hope this helps

When you say the engine is reving, is the revs rising when trying to accelerate but your not getting any faster?

To try for an iffy clutch, put it in top gear at around 40 and floor the accelerator, if the revs rise but it doesnt increase in speed then its knackered.

Or, apply the handbrake firmly (press the brake and keep it pressed while you pull tha handbrake), put the car in first gear and try, with some revs, to pull away, if the car wants to go and stalls then the clutch is ok, but if the clutch comes out without stalling its slipping.

If it is slipping they dont often last much longer before they give up totally.

In relation to the radio code have tried the procedure as shown and the pressed six and it returns to -- -- -- --. So I think I have used the code calculater wrong or the code is incorrect. It is definatley a blaupunkt 1996 as per the manufacture date of the car.

As for the clutch was doing 65 - 70 on the motoway today accelrated to overtake in 3rd, 4th and did accelrate a little when I eased off but as soon as a floored it, it just revved.

I only paid £250 for the car is it worth gettin the clutch done or is it a major expense job.

Thanks Markr

Clutch is not a bad job Mark and certainly worth doing. A hoist is useful.

This thread will give a good idea of the job. Don't be put off too much as I've now done three and they get easier :D That thread contains some useful hints and tips.

Odd on teh radio code as the calculator is normally pretty foolproof. It's worked beautifully for me twice and other members have had similar success.

PM your serial number and the code you generated and I can always confirm it looks right...
