seat airbag ecu

Hi i have a mk2 xantia sx with seat airbags, can anyone tell me where the ecu is for the seat airbags as i heard it's not the same ecu as dash ones, and if i unplug the seat ecu will it disable the seat airbags and keep the dash light off, i need to turn all airbags off due to disability It is dangerous for me to drive a car with airbags, I wish the key hole would turn them all off!!!

There is a seperate ECU bolted to the inner sills (one on each side) for the lateral airbags. disconecting the ECU will disable the airbags but it will leave the warning light on.

where bouts on the cills are they? under the car or under the carpet?

On most makes and models airbags which are not fitted are replaced with a 2.2 ohm resistor. The same technique can be used to remove an airbag from service whilst keeping the rest of the airbag system active.
Disconnect the battery. Wait about 10minutes to ensure the system is disarmed. Remove the connection from the airbag you don't want working. Connect a 2.2ohm 0.5W (sometimes written as 2R2 0.5W) resistor to the wiring instead of the airbag. reconnect the battery.
Oh yeah the cost. Something between 10 and 50 of these can be had for a euro, pound or whatever you use. In the UK or Ireland Maplin is handy.

Their under the carpet, its a silver box about the size of a packet of 10 fags.

If I am thinking of the right boxes, they are inside the B pillars near the bottom, you can see the bolt heads when the plastic trim is removed. When the bolts are removed the box can be slid out through a hole in the pillar.
