Fitting Reversing Sensors

Unread post by jmd »

Has anybody any experience of having fitter after market Reversing Sensors. To a car with a tow-bar.
Their seems to be no problem fitting then, they come with well explained instructions. However my fear is will the tow-bar effect them.

Yes, I've done so with no problems. My kit came with four sensors, so I fitted two each side, with a rather larger gap in the middle, and have never had a problem.

I am about to do this Jmd.. i have just two.., I was wondering if they would be much use as the bar sticks out a bit more.. they are bound to help in some capacity and they were free :)

Usually the sensors has you stopped wtih a good gap between the bumper and what you have parked up to. So the tow bar should not effect the sensors. Unless the sensors are too close to the tow bar then it might sense that instead.

Parking sensors are quite a nice idea, though its easy to catch them out i find. One car i had with parking sensors wouldnt recognise a post in the centre of the car and when reversing up to a car with a towbar it had me stopped about 2mm from the ball. Not fool proof!

The series 2 C5s have holes already there. I used a kit by Valeo in my saloon and had to enlarge the holes by about 0.5mm.

As Chris says, sensors won't notice a small object like a tow bar or post right in the middle.

I have instructions on where to take power from and can email them if you send me a PM.

The towball protector cap on my C5 seems to affect the sensors - if its sitting anyway crooked I get a continuous beep :( . Now leave it off most of the time.

Fitted them to my silver Xantia - dead easy. Even got them colour coded. Haven't had a problem with the tow bar either. If you look behind the bumper with a torch, you can avoid the strengthening fins.

I have a removable tow bar on my Tourer and when it is on the car the sensors see it and bleep continuously.
