Engine sort is not the issue!

Its the useual plastic clip sort, however, if its a black clip, its an orgininal, if its white, and still broke then theres possibly an issue with the Plastic Release arm Bush's in the box causeing excess strain on the clip when swiveling..

The Clip job, however, is the same no matter what engine

Indeed... with the pesky dash out of the way access to the clutch pedal would be a doddle  Seems like a bit of an extreme method, but anyone undertaking a matrix job where the clutch clip history is unknown would be well advised to take the extra 10 minutes to change it whilst the opportunity was there. Imagine the frustration of getting tha dash back in and working then five minutes later...twang!!!

sorry OT a bit guys.. can my (and maybe the OP's) clutch cable easily be lubed?

mine is definately getting sticky.. the clutch is 20K old and the bushes were either replaced or cleaned and lubed at that point....I cant remember :D

On motorbikes, you unhitch the bar end and either fit a luber over and spray or leave overnight with a funnel..I guess the same is possible with the Clutch cable.. would rather that than buy and fit a cable

As far as I remember, the inner cable is sheathed in PTFE or something similar, so a) it shouldn't need lubing, and b) roughness or sticking is probably due to this sheath having worn away.
A new cable can certainly make a big difference to the clutch action, and isn't very expensive. Well worth doing if you're replacing the clip anyway, and there's any doubt about the cable condition.

ahhh haa the dreded clutch clip strikes again.
Ive repaired two now and I still hate the job.

lets hope that the bolt has been out before and doesnt need cutting that will take a while and a few skinned knuckles.

get yourself a mirror to stick facing upwards under the pedals and shine a bright light into it so that the light is reflected up behind the pedals. if you can work with a reverse image in a mirror it makes the job a little easier.

once you have removed gthe bolt try to remove the pedal carefully with the rest of the old clip still attached it will give you a clue to how the new clip goes back on.

now providing you have been doing your daily yoga sessions you will fit nicely under the dashboard to see what you ae doing. put a cushion on the edge of the door step it will save those bruised ribs when you strech out to see under the dash. do one and you'll be ready to do another its not really all that bad and it does give you an enormous sense of acheivement, the cheapest componant you will ever buy at a main dealer but the hardest to fit. fortunately they have made the new clip slightly stronger than the old ones, I think the old ones were natural nylon coloured and the new ones are black. always get a new metal clip as these bend pulling on the end of the clutch cable.

some silicone spray on the end of the clutch cable nipple will help your friend to insert it whilst you hold the pedal and clutch clip in place.

good luck.

Mk2 xantias generally have auto adjust cables. I diont think they can be converted.
