406 2.0 HDi engine management fault

Post by h2ocooler »

Hi All
My dad has a 1999 406 2.0 HDi (110) with the engine management light on, I have come over to visit (he lives in france) and read the fault with PP2000, fault came up as Intermittent fault Accellerator pedal signal 2. coherance with accellerator pedal signal 1.
I cleared the fault and when the engine was started the light was out, soon as i revved the engine on it came.
Before clearing the fault the engine was revving with a mind of its own.
Any ideas as to what it is?
Also it says there is a fault with the preheat system, is there a common failing point on these?
Thanks
Rob

Also how much movement should there be on the engine mounts, not had chance to look yet but i think the bottom mount may be broken, the engine is swinging around like mad

On a xantia HDi of the same year that fault can be triggered by pressing the brake and accelerator pedal at the same time, is the brake pedal switch working OK? i.e. are the brake lights illuminated continuously?

I take it the 406 is similar to a Xantia HDi, if so check the mount that attaches to the suspension strut/inner wing, a common failure.

Will look to see for sure tomorrow but think the brake lights are working ok.

When I looked on PP2000 the throttle was always at 4%, I did wonder if the cable needed adjusting.
